- Two high density optical storage formats have been developed: the MultiMedia Compact Disc (MMCD) by Philips and Sony, and the Super Density (SD) disc by Toshiba, Time Warner, Matsushita Electric, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Pioneer, Thomson, and JVC.[1]
