2016 World Rally Championship-2
The 2016 World Rally Championship-2 is the fourth season of the World Rally Championship-2, an auto racing championship recognized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, running in support of the World Rally Championship. It was created when the Group R class of rally car was introduced in 2013. The Championship is open to cars complying with R4, R5, and Super 2000 regulations. The Championship is composed by thirteen Rallies, and Drivers and Teams must nominate a maximum of seven event. The best six results are counted towards the championship.[1]
After winning the 2015 and the 2014, Nasser Al-Attiyah won't participate to the 2016 season. The Qatari driver decided to focus on the 2016 Dakar Rally and on training for the 2016 Summer Olympics, in attempt to win a medal in the Men's Skeet event.[2]
Calendar
The calendar was announced in November by the FIA.[3] The season will maintain the same rallies as the 2015 championship with the addition of the China Rally and will be contested over fourteen rounds in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Australia.[4][5]
