The 2017 Pakistan Super League, also known as PSL 2 or, for sponsorship reasons, HBL PSL 2017, will be the second season of the Pakistan Super League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2016. The tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates and will feature five teams.[1][2] On 19 October 2016, at the 2017 player draft, the league chairman Najam Sethi announced that the final of the 2017 tournament might be played in Lahore, Pakistan if the security situation in the country made this possible.[3][4][5][6]
Player acquisition and salaries
The player draft for the 2017 season was held in Dubai on 19 October 2016.[7][8] 414 players, including both Pakistani and international players, were divided into five different categories. Each franchise was allowed to pick a maximum of seven foreign players in their squads which could have a maximum of 20 members.[8] A total of 100 players including 34 foreigners were picked during the draft.[8][9][10]
Teams
The 2017 season of the Pakistan Super League will feature five teams nominally representing major cities in Pakistan.[11] The possibility of adding a sixth team to the league in 2017, possibly representing Kashmir,[12][13] had been discussed but was rejected by the middle of May 2016.[11]
The teams playing in the 2017 season will be the same five franchises which played in the 2016 season:
Venues
Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates will be the sites of all group stage matches in the tournament. The final has tentatively been scheduled to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore if the security situation in Pakistan allows.[6] The other playoff matches will be held at Sharjah and Dubai.

If any play-off match finishes with no result, a super over will be used to determine the winner with a tied super over meaning that the team which finished higher in the league table progressing.
