"5,6,7,8" is the debut single by British pop group Steps. The verses are performed by Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee performs the middle eight. The choruses feature no male singing voices. The song's release coincided with a line dancing craze in the UK, then at its prime.
Although it is only one of two Steps singles to miss the top ten in the UK, it is also one of their highest sellers. It remained in the top 20 for ten weeks and sold over 300,000 copies, more than some of their top-5 hits. In the UK it was the biggest-selling single of the 1990s not to enter the top 10 in the UK Singles Chart. It did, however, top the charts in Australia.[1]
Music video
The official music video for the song was filmed in Marbella, Spain. It features Steps performing the song and its dance routine in colour co-ordinated outfits. Lisa Scott-Lee is in a green bikini top and flowered shorts, Faye Tozer wears a yellow bikini top and sarong whilst Claire Richards has orange bikini top and sarong. Both H and Lee Latchford-Evans are wearing their shirts undone and shorts which feature a mash-up of colours. At the end, Lisa is wearing a red halter neck lycra dress, Faye a red asymmetrical top and skirt and Claire a red long sleeved see-through top and leather trousers. Both H and Lee are wearing black t-shirts and red trousers. Throughout the video, Lisa, Faye and Claire are driving to the beach in a 1995 Suzuki Vitara or playing turn tables. H and Lee are seen driving on quad bikes or playing snooker. On the choruses, they are performing the famous dance routine. On one chorus, they are seen showing routine to some boys and girls. At the end of the video, they are on stage at a beach party with an audience watching and dancing.[2]
