5000 Miles is a 2006 American documentary film by filmmaker Michael Rozumalski that tells the story of a young couple and their journey of adopting a child from Poland.

This independent film was produced for an estimated $120,000^[1] and was primarily filmed by Rozumalski. The story begins in Wisconsin and takes the audience to Nowa Sól, Poland (5,000 miles or 8,000 kilometers away). The film spans almost two years (20 months) in the life of Rozumalski and his wife, Amy. The film was released in 2006 by Splice Films.

Original titles for the film included, Adopting Ally and 5000 Miles Away.

Summary

This movie tells the story of a young couple form the mid-west who decided to adopt a child all the way in Poland. The movie shows how the Polish girl became part of their family. It's a 75-minute movie showing the emotionally draining experience of the couple traveling across the world, just to create the family that they longed for. The film follows the hopeful young couple from the beginning of their adoption progress and the film concludes once their whole family (including the new daughter) arrives home. This whole process took the couple a period of 20 months. It is a very emotional and dramatic film.

The Couple Now

Michael and Amy Rozumalski divorced in 2009, after the movie was released. The couple have been together for a bit over eight years before the divorce. Michael is remarried and still lives in Wisconsin. He still maintains a strong relationship with his daughter.
