Shah Abdul Qadir Raipuri شاه عبدلقادر راے پوری (born 1878 / 1295AH) was a spiritual reformer and well known guide of Islam.[1]
Life
He was born in Toha Moharram Khan of Photohar of Chakwa District in India. He lived with his aunt in Dhodiyal, Sargoda. She bequeathed him her lands. Her brothers were Mulana Muhammad Ahsan, Mulana Kaleemullah and Mulana Muhammad Yaseen.[2] His father belonged to a religious family.
He became a hafiz of the Quran under the supervision of his uncle, Maulana Kaleemullah.[3] He learned Arabic grammar from Maulana Muhammad Rafiq, who was a student of Rashid Ahmad Gangohi. Thereafter, he left home to pursue Islamic studies. He studied in Saharanpur, Panipat and Delhi.[3]
In Delhi, he studied the books of Hadith in Madrasa Abdur Rabb under Maulana Abd al-A’li, who was a student of Hujjatul Islam Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotvi. He learned Persian. He traveled to Delhi, where he studied hadith in Madrasa Abdur Rabb from Maulana Abdul Ali as well as Sunan at-Tirmidhi from Maulana Muhammad Anwar Shah Kashmiri.
Works
- He opened a clinic in Afzal Garh, a small town in Bijnor district, where he assisted in providing relief for the sick.
- He traveled to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and conducted classes on the Qur'an and hadith.
- He taught his disciples the methods of the purification of the soul and Tasawuff. Many Muslim scholars studied under him. He authorizedsome students to teach and propagate Islam scross India.
