The Agglomeration community of La Rochelle (French: Communauté d'agglomération de La Rochelle) is an intercommunal structure gathering La Rochelle with seventeen surrounding towns and villages of Aunis in the northern Charente-Maritime.[1]
In January 2000, the Community of cities of La Rochelle (French: Communauté de villes de La Rochelle) turned into the Agglomeration community of La Rochelle.[2] With 146,362 inhabitants at the moment of the 2007 census, the Agglomeration community of La Rochelle is the most populated intercommunal structure in the Poitou-Charentes.
The Agglomeration community of La Rochelle divides into two constituencies: Charente-Maritime's 1st constituency and Charente-Maritime's 2nd constituency. A mayor of La Rochelle from April 1999 to April 2014 and a MP of the Charente-Maritime's 1st constituency from April 1999 to June 2012, Maxime Bono was the president of the Agglomeration Community of La Rochelle from its creation to April 2014[3] , when he was succeeded by Jean-François Fountaine.[4][5]
Composition
The Agglomeration community of La Rochelle covers eighteen municipalities located in eleven cantons: Aytré, La Jarrie (a part), La Rochelle-1, La Rochelle-2, La Rochelle-3, La Rochelle-4, La Rochelle-5, La Rochelle-6, La Rochelle-7, La Rochelle-8, La Rochelle-9.
