He taught at the Central School of Art and Design from 1954 to 1961, and from 1961[3] or 1962[1] at Saint Martin's School of Art, where he became a senior lecturer in painting in 1985.[3] His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the National Museum of Canada, the V&A and the Tate among others. He was known first as a landscape painter, but changed to a totally abstract style from 1960.[1] He lived and worked in Kent.[4]
