Allmänna Barnhuset
Allmänna Barnhuset (literary: The Children's General House), until 1785 known as Stora Barnhuset (literary: 'The Great Children's House') was the name of an orphanage active in Stockholm between 1633 and 1922. From its foundation until 1885, it was located in the corner of Drottninggatan Barnhusgatan (Children's House' Street), the later of which was named after it, in the area Barnhuset (Children's House), which was also named after it. In 1885 it was moved to Norrtullsgatan. The orphanage itself was closed in 1922, but the then medicinal clinic of the orphanage was kept and transformed by the city to the present Norrtulls sjukhus (Norrtull Hospital). The foundation of the orphanage still exists, and now support research associated with children's care.
