Angela Gegg

Angela Gegg is one of Belize’s leading female artists. In the past decade she has had six major solo art shows and been featured in over twenty joint art shows and exhibits in Belize, Texas, New York, Miami, and Trinidad. She is featured in calendars, DVDs, CDs, and books about Belize artists. She is also the published author of two books and is a regular stage performer of the spoken word at events, shows and festivals throughout the country of Belize.
As a writer
Angela Gegg is a poet and spoken word artist. She published her first book in July 2006, titled The Light, the Dark, and Everything in Between.
In 2009, at the launch of her sixth major solo art show, "Impulse", she also released her second book, Artist Confessions.

Writing features
- (2007) An Encounter with Women Writers takes place at the University of Belize in Belmopan as part of their Women In Literature forum. Angela spoke to the students, along with other Belizean female writers in 2007 and has been invited to speak to the University every year since.
- (2008) The Other Voices International Project is a cyber-anthology that erases the boundaries of nations, ethnicities, religions, cultures, and age to bring you some of the world's best poetry. No poetry or art is used in this project unless permission has been granted by the artist or his/her estate. Participation in Other Voices is by invitation only. Other Voices is listed in the journal section of the World Poetry Directory of UNESCO. Angela was invited to participate in The Other Voices Poetry Project in 2008 and was a part of Volume 34, The Pages In Between, by Angela Gegg
As a painter
Angela Gegg is an abstract surrealist artist who specializes in cubism. She has accomplished regional recognition throughout the Caribbean, United States, and Belize. Since 2004, she has six major solo exhibits. In many interviews we have heard this artist state that her three main influences as an artist are Salvador Dalí, the father of surrealism; Pablo Picasso who started the Cubist Movement; and Jackson Pollock an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist Movement.

- (2004) Subconscious Works of Art, hosted by the Mexican Ambassador and opened by Governor General, Sir Colville Young at the Mexican Institute in Belize City.
- (2005) Proshka, the Artist in Action, at the Princess Hotel and Casino in Belize City.
- (2006) Hottt Chicks Can Paint Too, opened by Prime Minister Said Musa at the Image Factory in Belize City.

- (2009) Impulse, hosted by the Ambassador to Mexico and held at the Institute of Mexico in Belize City.

Art features
- (2005) CLICO Art Gallery in Trinidad Located at the corporate headquarters of CLICO at 29 St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain, THE GALLERY at CLICO seeks to support the art of established and emerging artists of the Caribbean. CLICO had begun this tradition of actively supporting Caribbean artists with the inception of its art calendar in 1992. Clico took notice of Angela Gegg's works of art and purchased REMEMBRANCE and featuring her in their 2005 Calendar. The artwork now hangs in the Clico Arts Gallery in Trinidad.
- (2007) Made in Belize, Art Book is a contemporaneity Art Book based on 33 Belizean Artists. Author Maggie Turner started composing this book in 2004 and worked with Image Factory Curator, Gilvano Swasey. Angela was one of only 8 female artists featured in the book which was launched in 2007.
As an entertainer
Gegg has been working in television in Belize since 2004 when she was on the Love FM TV Show, Cooking with the Smoky Mermaid. She hosted the Channel 7 Carnival for four years, which aired during the September Celebrations in Belize. In November 2006, she was hired by Positive Vibes FM Radio, a newly formed radio station owned by the People's United Party as one of the hosts for the G2 Show. The G2 was a hip-hop generation show about spoken word, music and poetry. Her co-host is well-known poet, the Grandmaster, Leroy Young. The G2 combined the personalities of these two dynamic artists. The show had special guests, on air poet showdowns and live readings. It will also feature the poetry of international and regional poets. Gegg is a regular performer of the Spoken Word on stage and at events, including Charity Events. As an artist, Gegg has accomplished regional recognition throughout the Caribbean and United States, and in her home country of Belize. In 2010 she hosted her game show "Tek it or leave it". In 2011 she hosted her own show 'OMG'.
