Antoine Peters
Antoine Peters (born 1981 in Vorden) is a Dutch, Amsterdam based, fashion designer.[1]
Life and career
Peters graduated cum laude at the Art Academy in Arnhem, Netherlands, and then continued to study his master's degree at the Fashion Institute, Arnhem. His graduation show took place at the Fashion Week in Paris in March 2006. Before launching his own design label, Peters worked at Viktor & Rolf, and the Dutch Avantgarde magazine.
Peters is known for his 'A Sweater For The World!' project; a two-person sweater, with the goal to photograph as many 'different kinds of people' as possible inside. These big series of pictures with a weird fun collection of people, shows one world with different kind of styles, ages, points of view, values, religions and imagination.
Peters shows his work at the Amsterdam International Fashionweek and has had exhibitions of his work in Amsterdam,[2] New York,[3] Paris and Arnhem. He presented collections with titles including 'I Will Never Wear A Sweater.', 'Le Petit Antoine.', 'Fat People Are Harder To Kidnap!' and 'To make An Elephant Out Of A Mosquito'
Recently, he launched 'Antoine Peters' Shirts',[4] which attempts to deal with the problems of commercial practicalities faced by many young designers.
Peters also initiates and participates in projects such as the 'Killing Fashion' installation/collection for the Dutch Fashion Biennial, and was the conceptual director and designer of 'dancecostumes' and the 'happy burka'. He is a guest teacher at the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design.
Peters is included in the 100 New Fashion Designers book by Hywel Davies. The book is an international snapshot of the contemporary fashion, and design scene and those individuals who play an integral role in it. Davies defines the new fashion generation and uncovers the world's best and most radical 100 new designers, who each are fulfilling important individual roles as innovators in the industry.[5]
Peters' designs have been featured in magazines such as Avantgarde, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Elegance, Elle-girl, Blend, Sis, AM magazine, CODE, No magazine, Celebrity, LinK, Glamcult, Columbus, TeD, Vice, Viva and Blend.
