The Barnegat Township School District is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade from Barnegat Township, in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States.

As of the 2011-12 school year, the district's six schools had an enrollment of 3,219 students and 252.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.77:1.[1]

The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "CD", the sixth-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[3]

Middle school

Barnegat High School opened in September 2004 with a freshman class, adding a new class each subsequent year. The last group of students from Barnegat completed twelfth grade at Southern Regional High School in Stafford Township at the end of the 2006-07 school year through a now-ended sending/receiving relationship with the Southern Regional School District.[12]
