Bbánlám Hōng'ggián Pìngyīm Hōng'àn[1] (Chinese: 閩南方言拼音方案), Bbánlám pìngyīm, Minnan pinyin or simply pingyim, is a romanization system for Hokkien Southern Min, in particular the Xiamen version of this speech.[2]
Names
Various names are used such as Bbínpīn Hōngàn (Chinese: 閩拼方案), BbínPīn or BP (閩拼). It's commonly known as Pumindian (普閩典) in Taiwan, named after the Mandarin-Southern Min Dictionary (simplified Chinese: 普通话闽南方言词典; traditional Chinese: 普通話閩南方言詞典; pinyin: Pǔtōnghuà Mǐnnán Fāngyán Cídiǎn) where the system is used, but the formal Chinese name is Southern Min Dialect Spelling System (闽南方言拼音方案; 閩南方言拼音方案; Mǐnnán Fāngyán Pīnyīn Fāng'àn).[3]

The BP alphabet adopts the Latin alphabet of 20 letters, 5 digraphs, and 5 diacritics to express the basic sounds of the Min Nan language:

Notes
- ↑ The two apostrophes here are not needed for native speakers (since Hōngg and Hōn cannot be a valid syllable in Hokkien), but is used within the official orthography. It would be written as Bbánlám Hōngggián Pìngyīm Hōngàn in practice.
- ↑ Quanzhou and Zhangzhou version is also devised, but not popular.
