Besoiro is a French entomological scientific journal. It is published by Patrick Arnaud and was established in 1995. The name means beetle in Portuguese. The taxa described are included on the Zoological Record volumes.[1]

Arnaud also created the Juvisy insect fair, the most important entomological exhibition in the world, he travelled many countries and described many new species. Following the cessation of publication of the Bulletin de la Société Sciences Nat in 1995, there was a major need for entomologists to have a journal that could publish descriptions of new insect species quickly, and the journals Besoiro and Coléoptères were founded the same year.

Composition

Each volume contains one or several works. Black and white figures and colour photographs illustrate the publications. This journal is not peer reviewed.

Authors

The authors are amateur entomologists. They are mainly Patrick Arnaud Cetoniidae, Lucanidae and Scarabaeidae, Hugues Bomans Lucanidae, Tetsuo Miyashita Dynastidae and Lucanidae, Marc Soula Rutelinae. Lydie Arnaud described several new Membracidae.[2]

They are from different countries: Canada, Costa-Rica, France, Japan, Madagascar, Venezuela, West Indies.

Production

The bulletin is produced on A4 paper (21 x 29.7 cm). They are produced by ink jet, as this might last longer than laser photocopies.

Circulation

Each issue is produced at about 50 copies, of which some are sent to others specialists in the world and about 20 copies are available for sale. When an issue is exhausted, a reissue is produced. Even with a small circulation, the journal has its place in Natural History Museums and is cited by Dung Beetles specialists[3] and Lucanidae specialists.[4][5]

New taxa

In total about 100 new taxa were described in this journal.[6]
