Wigston Birkett House Community Special School is a special school with academy status based in Wigston, Leicestershire, England. The school caters for up to 175 students aged between 5 and 19 with a range of additional learning needs.
The school was rated as "Outstanding" in all areas during its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2015. [1]
Facilities
The school is spread over four sites located to the south of Leicester:
- Launceston Road site: Caters for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties aged between 5 and 19.
- Tythorn site: located at Tythorn Field Primary School. Caters for KS1 and KS2 students with severe or moderate learning difficulties.
- The Centre at Thomas Estley: Located at Thomas Estley Community College. Caters for KS3 students with severe or moderate learning difficulties.
- Birkett House Seniors: Located at Countesthorpe Leysland Community College. Caters for KS4 and post-16 students with severe or moderate learning difficulties.
The Launceston Road site will be replaced by new purpose built accommodation located on the site of The Wigston Academies Trust (TWAT). The new building, costing £10 million, will include a swimming pool, multi-sensory environments, outdoor play areas and accessible classrooms will open in September 2017. [2]
