Brian Funes (born 3 January 1991) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Sydney Ice Dogs in the Australian Ice Hockey League.
Playing career
Funes first played for the ECSL Raptors of the East Coast Super League in 2009.[1] In 2010 Funes had his best season with the Raptors in terms of points. Playing in 16 games he recorded 11 points, including five goals and six assists. Funes continued to play exclusively for the Raptors until 2011 when he signed with the Sydney Ice Dogs of the Australian Ice Hockey League.[1] Funes has continued to play for both the Ice Dogs and the Raptors however has reduced the number of games played the Raptors since signing with the Ice Dogs.[1]
Funes was first selected to represent Australia in 2009 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championship Division III Group A tournament being held in Taipei, Taiwan. Australia won the tournament and were promoted to Division II for the following year while Funes recorded five points and finished with a plus/minus of +19.[2] In 2011 Funes was selected for the national under-20 team to compete in the 2011 IIHF World U20 Championship Division II Group B tournament. Funes recorded one point for the tournament and finished with a plus/minus of –3.[3] In 2013 Funes was selected for the national senior team to compete in the 2013 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Zagreb, Croatia. Australia finished the tournament in fourth place while Funes finished with a plus/minus of zero and failed to record any points.[4]
