Britt Reusche (born 3 July 1996) is a Peruvian female artistic gymnast, representing her nation at international competitions. She competed at world championships, including the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanning, China.[1]

Personal life

Britt was born on July 3, 1996, in Lima, Peru. She was raised in the Chorrillos District along with her sisters, Astrid and Bianca, by mother Ursula Lari. Lari is a former Peruvian international fencer with many national titles and involvement in the Bolivarian Games and Pan American Games. Britt was enrolled in the Lycée Franco-Péruvien for her elementary school years. Apart from her interest in gymnastics, she has a passion for playing the piano and singing. Her mother encouraged her involvement in the music industry and enrolled her in piano classes. She studied the Suzuki method and graduated from the first two volumes by the age of 8. Aside from playing the piano, Reusche developed her singing career by participating in many singing competitions. She was featured on many TV programs including Peru's popular Maria Pia & Timoteo and Código F.A.M.A.. Soon after her performance at Código F.A.M.A., singer Julio Andrade encouraged her to release a CD in 2004. Early in 2007, Britt and her family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in California. She arrived to the country speaking only Spanish and French but was still enrolled in regular classes and finished middle school at Clifford Elementary. She transitioned into Sequoia High School in 2010 and got accepted into the Cañada Middle College Program where she earned her diploma in 2014.

Junior career

Britt began gymnastics at the age of 6 because of a gymnastics exhibition her sister Astrid did at Club de Regatas Lima. She began in the recreational program and progressed into the advanced development team. At age 7, she debuted her competitive career at the 2003 Peruvian National Gymnastics Championships. She earned her first national title as all around champion and secured her spot to train with the Club de Regatas Lima gymnastics team. Showing determination and talent, Britt earned 5 consecutive all-around National titles from years 2003-2007.[2] In 2005, Reusche competed internationally for her club at the 2005 Campeonato Internacional de Gimnasia Artística "Gimnastas del Futuro" in Cuba. She acquired gold medals in the All-around, vault, beam, and floor.[3] Prior to the last nationals she attended in 2007, Britt debuted her international career at the 2006 Junior South American Championships in Ecuador, representing her country, Peru. She qualified to Beam and Vault finals and earned bronze medals in both. As a team, Peru earned bronze medal.[4] In this same year, Reusche was awarded best nationally ranked gymnasts in the 9-10 age group by the Instituto Peruano del Deporte.[5] In 2007, Reusche moved to California with her family and began training at Peninsula Gymnastics in San Mateo, California.[6] Coaches, Matt Hodges and Kelly Alliger-keane, worked extremely hard to re-build her basics and improve her form. Late in 2007, Britt traveled to Venezuela to compete in the 2007 Junior South American Championships along her Peruvian teammates. After an incredible performance of the team, they earned the all-around team title. Individually, Britt medalled in all the events and earned the first place all-around title with a score of 53.300. In 2008, Britt competed individually for Peru in the 2008 Pacific Rim Championships in San Jose, California. Britt finished 14th all-around with a score of 53.200.[7] Later in the year, Britt traveled back to her country for the 2008 Junior South American Championships. As a team, they earned second place all-around and individually, Britt earned her second consecutive all-around title with a 51.9. She also obtained gold medals in floor, beam, and bars, and a silver medal on vault.[8][9] This was the last competition of Britt's junior gymnastics career.

Senior career

Reusche debuted her senior gymnastics career at age 13. In march 2009, Reusche competed at the International Gymnix Classique held in Montreal, Canada. She qualified to floor finals and placed fourth on that event.[10] Later in the year, she participated in the 2009 Bolivarian Games which were held in Sucre, Bolivia. She qualified to floor finals and earned a bronze medal tied to Colombia's Natalia Sanchez.[11] Reusche is the youngest athlete to have ever medalled in the history of the Bolivarian Games. In 2010, Reusche competed with her teammates at the ODESUR (South American) Games held in Medellin, Colombia. After qualifying for floor finals, she ended up in fourth place only .075 points away from 3rd place.[12] In November 2012, Britt competed along with her teammates at the Campeonato Sudamericano de Gimnasia Artística de 2012 held in Rosario, Argentina, placing 13th all-around. In August 2013, she joined her team to compete at the Specialists Pan American Gymnastics Championships held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The following year in June 2014, Reusche traveled to The Netherlands to compete at FAME SVOD OPEN for her Club Accel Gymnastics. She earned first place AA, second on vault, second on beam, and first on floor.[13]
