Brooke McEldowney is the creator of the newspaper comic strip 9 Chickweed Lane and the webcomic Pibgorn.
Life
McEldowney was born in Charleston, West Virginia, and later lived in Florida. He obtained Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the Juilliard School of Music, studying the viola.[1] He also studied and performed at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He has worked as a violist, music critic, and cartoonist. He was assistant editor and contributing cartoonist for Opus, a classical music magazine, and has had cartoons published in Yankee and Pulse. His first cartoon sale was to Punch.
Career
9 Chickweed Lane debuted on Monday, July 12, 1993,[2] though comics historian Don Markstein notes that some sources erroneously give August 2, 1993.[3] It won the National Cartoonists Society Award for Newspaper Strip in 2005.[4] It has been published in several collections.
