Canelas is one of the 39 municipalities of Durango, in north-western Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Canelas. The municipality covers an area of 683.4 km².
As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 4,122.[1] It is located in the Sierra Madre Occidental.
Settlements
Canelas has some 70 small villages and ranches.[2] Some of these locations have sawmills and produce wood. This region of Durango has a variety of minerals. These two natural resources provide many people with jobs in Canelas.
