CNI College (also Career Networks Institute) is an allied health vocational college in Santa Ana, California.[1] The main campus is located in the City of Orange.[2]
Programs
The college offers an Associate Degree in Nursing, a vocational nursing course, qualifications in massage therapy, MRI technology, personal fitness training, pharmacy technician and surgical technologist programs.
Massage Therapy Program
The 11-month massage therapy diploma program prepares graduates to take the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage to become a Certified Massage Therapist. CNI College offers a Wellness Center Student Clinic which allows students to combine formal coursework with related work experience.[3]
Medical Assisting Program
The medical assistant curriculum takes about 10 months to address the competencies of the American Association of Medical Assistants[4] or American Medical Technologists exams. Students who graduate will have a vast knowledge of the medical assisting field, with hands-on training.
Course Descriptions
MA 101 – INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL ASSISTING This medical assistant training course will introduce the students to the history and practice of medicine. It will present the basic concepts of medical law and ethics, communications (verbal and nonverbal and written), and telephone techniques. The module also covers the different aspects associated with medical assisting which includes the description of the office facilities, equipment and supplies, patient reception, appointment scheduling, managing medical records and medical office management. In addition, the module presents professionalism by describing the concepts of making a commitment to your job.
MA 201 – INTRODUCTION TO ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY This course covers the introduction to anatomy and physiology, including the organizational levels of the body and medical terminology. The course also presents the definition of anatomical position, as well as the terms of body positions, body planes, directional terms, body cavities, quadrants and body regions. The module provides the concepts of the skeletal and muscular systems; their structures, functions and common disorders. It will also present the basic drugs/agents, diagnostic and lab tests associated with the musculoskeletal system. Word building skills will be incorporated within the module. Concepts of professionalism, discussing the personal traits of the health care professional is also presented. Professionalism in dress, behavior, and attitude are presented and monitored throughout the program.
MA 301 – OFFICE ENVIRONMENT SAFETY, INFECTION CONTROL AND LABORATORY This course covers the concepts relating to the office environment safety and measures that includes discussion of bloodborne pathogens, universal precautions, proper body mechanics and quality assurance. The CNI Medical Assistant School module further presents concepts of infection control and clinical laboratory. Lymphatic and immune systems are also discussed. Concepts of professionalism relating to working with others will be described. Professionalism in dress, behavior, and attitude are presented and monitored throughout the program.
MA 401 – SYSTEMS CONTROL AND SENSES This course presents the concepts of the nervous and integumentary systems, as well as the eye and ear. The module covers the systems’ structures and functions, common disorders, drugs/agents, diagnostic and lab tests. Word building skills will be incorporated throughout the course. Additional topics for this module are psychology and patient education. Concepts of professionalism, discussing the “professionalism and your personal life” is also presented. Professionalism in dress, behavior, and attitude are presented and monitored throughout the program.
MA 501 – FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT This medical assistant training module covers the concepts of financial management, medical insurance, types and claims. The course further presents the concepts of medical coding, as well as the anatomy and physiology of the digestive and urinary systems. Concepts of professionalism relating to the practicum experience will be described. Professionalism in dress, behavior, and attitude are presented and monitored throughout the program.
MA 601 – CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTING DUTIES This module covers the concepts of clinical medical assisting duties as they relate to vital signs, physical examinations, medical specialties and their relationship to lifespan, and nutrition. The course also presents concepts and information related to the study of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Concepts of professionalism relating to career planning and employment will also be discussed. Professionalism in dress, behavior, and attitude are presented and monitored throughout the program.
MA 701 – PHARMACOLOGY AND OFFICE EMERGENCIES This module covers the concepts of pharmacology and office emergencies. This module also presents the anatomy and physiology of the endocrine and reproductive systems. Review of professionalism, as well as the forms associated with preparation for employment will be discussed. Professionalism in dress, behavior, and attitude are presented and monitored throughout the program.
MA 801 – CLINICAL EXTERNSHIP Satisfactory completion of all subject areas in compliance with established CNI College standards. On-site evaluation of skills will be performed by the physician and/or office manager in the medical facility.
MRI Technology Program
After completing the 16-month MRI technology program, students have the knowledge to perform clinical MRI exams in medical clinics and imaging centers nationwide. Graduates receive a diploma and are eligible to take the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) National Certification Examination[5]
Nursing Degree
Launched in December 2012, this 20-month Associates Degree in Nursing program prepares students to take the NCLEX-RN for licensure as a Registered Nurse.The program is designed to prepare safe and registered nurses who are able to provide quality nursing care to patients, and is delivered in both residence and online distance learning formats.[6] CNI is a non-accredited school, so credits obtained may not be transferred to other institutions.
Personal Fitness
The 11-month Personal Fitness program provides students qualified instructors and a curriculum that prepares students for a position as an employed personal trainer. CNI College is the only accredited private college in California that is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).[7]
Pharmacy Technician
The 10-month Pharmacy Technician program includes 36 weeks of classroom instruction and six weeks of externship. The classroom and lab setting prepares students for work in hospitals, neighborhood pharmacies, large chains, and HMOs. Students will be prepared for the PTCE-National Certification Exam and are assisted in the registration and licensing process with the State Board of Pharmacy.[8]
Surgical Technology
The 13-month comprehensive Surgical Technology program combines theoretical and hands-on components, including mock surgeries and classroom training, and allows students to train in an operating room environment with surgeons and anesthesiologists. An externship is included, giving students the opportunity to gain real-life experience[9]
Vocational Nursing
The Vocational Nursing program is offered with a 12-month full-time or 19-month part-time schedule and is approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.Students receive vocational nursing training in up-to-date facilities with graduates of this program eligible and prepared to take the NCLEX-PN exam.[10]
CNI College previously offered Medical Billing and Medical Coding, but in February 2012 the college removed the programs from course offering.Day, evening, and weekend classes are available, in addition to full-time and part-time classes.
Accreditation and Memberships
CNI College has been accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools,[11] American Society of Health System Pharmacists, and Commissions on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. CNI College has received approval from the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists, State of California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education, State of California Board of Registered Nurses, and received a Certificate of Recognition from the National Strength & Conditioning Association.[12]

In addition to CNI College’s accreditations and approvals, CNI is a member of the following organizations: California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS), Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA), Better Business Bureau, American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), and Library and Information Resources Network, Inc.[12][13]
History
CNI College was established in 1994, and was located in Santa Ana. In an effort to provide more spacious accommodations and an environment more conductive to learning, the vocational college was moved to the City of Orange campus in 1997. The college eventually expanded to the Costa Mesa campus to accommodate growth, but in 2009 the main campus moved back to the City of Orange. Here, all classrooms and administrative office are in one location.[2] The facilities include spacious classrooms, fully equipped medical and pharmacy laboratories, personal training laboratory, and computer lab. The on-campus library with Internet access is available to all students during regularly scheduled school hours. The campus facility and equipment fully comply with all state and local ordinances and regulations.[2]
Code of Conduct
All faculty members, employees, agents and other personnel at CNI College must adhere to a strict code of conduct. The rules cover equal employment, harassment/discrimination, confidentiality, protection of financial and student records, and other rules ensuring the workplace is free of drugs and weapons.[14] If these are violated in any way, the violator will be disciplined, which may include immediate job termination. All students must agree to abide by guidelines with emphasis placed on regular attendance, promptness, honesty and a positive attitude. Violators may results in probation, suspension or dismissal from CNI College.[14]
