Charity Basaza Mulenga PhD is a Ugandan electrical engineer and academic administrator. She was the founding Vice Chancellor (2011 to 2016), of St. Augustine International University, a private institution of higher education in Uganda, accredited by Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), in 2011.[1]
Background and education
She was born in Kisoro District, Western Uganda, circa 1979. Charity Basaza Mulenga studied electrical engineering at Makerere University, the largest and oldest public university in Uganda, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2001. Her degree of Master of Science in Digital Communication Systems was obtained from the University of Loughborough in 2004.[2] She also holds the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, obtained in 2010 from Loughborough University.[3]
Work experience
In 2001, straight out of Makerere University, she joined MTN Uganda as a Switch Planning Engineer. In 2003, she left MTN Uganda to pursue an MSc. degree in the UK, on a British Council scholarship. In 2005, when she returned to Uganda, she joined the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at Makerere University as a Research Coordinator. While there, she obtained another scholarship to pursue her Doctorate. Her research area was antennas and electromagnetic modelling. During this period, she was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the same faculty, at Makerere. In 2009, she was appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor, at St. Augustine International University. Between 2011 and 2016, she served as Vice Chancellor at St Augustine. She is a member of the University Council at SAIU.[4]
