Cherukara is a rural village in Malappuram, Kerala, India. The nearest town is Perinthalmanna which is about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away. The village can be accessed by local buses and taxis. The Shoranur - Nilambur Railway line serves this area.

MIC English Medium Secondary School

MIC English Medium secondary School run by Manfa-ul-uloom Islamic complex trust is a secondary school situated in Cherukara, is affiliated to CBSE New Delhi, founded by late Punnasseri Bappu Haji. Apart from General Education, school curriculum also includes Islamic moral studies.

The School Authority is also running an orphanage which provides food and shelter for the poor children of nearby areas.

Cherukara Juma Masjid

Cherukara Juma Masjid is a Masjid (place for worship) in Cherukara and is run by "Cherukara Mahal Committee" a local body of elected members. It is not mere a place for prayer but its functionality is beyond that. It is a religious institution which provided Islamic Education to a large number of students who comes from different parts of Kerala.The Anti-Alcohol law made by Masjid Committee to boycott alcohol from the Mahal premises is highly remarkable and it is appreciated by a large number of people even in the social media. A lot of Facebook users commented that "It is a brave attempt and is a role model for all the Mahal Committees". Beside that Cherukara Juma Masjid is a place for settling personal and social disputes.

BlueStar Rural Arts and Sports Club

Blue Star Rural Arts and Sports Club, Cherukara is one of the best Youth Association in Malappuram District.The main asset of the club is its united, active and dedicated members. The club and its members involve in arts, sports, cultural, charity and otherlocal development activities.

Role of expatriates

There has been a huge flow of Workers from whole Kerala to Middle East since the 1970s. Like other parts of Kerala, so many people had migrated from cherukara to Middle East Countries like Saudi Arabia,Qatar,UAE in search of jobs.Initially most of them were engaged in unskilled Works or less wage duties.But from the last decade there was a big change.Skilled, Educated people started to migrate from Cherukara and Some of them started to engage in business.This helped them to increase in the monthly remittance to home and the life style of the people of Cherukara gradually Changed. Cherukarites are Socially and Culturally organized in their homeland and as well as in abroad.There are a lot of organization where cherukarites are a part.One of the notable organization is Cherukara MIC Welfare Committee Jeddah. Besides that there are a few Cherukarites organizations in different gulf region.The main objective of these organizations is to help those who are really in need of help.Helping hands of these organizations supported many to construct houses,Marriage for poor girls and provided education for financially backward students.

Apart from MIC Jeddah Welfare Committee in Saudi Arabia a new Committee is formed in UAE named as "UAE Cherukara Association" which has two main divisions namely (Abudhabi&Al-Ain) and (Dubai & Northern Emirates). This group is formed to actively take part in social activities and unify all cherukarites from this region. This group was started with around 160 members and is flourishing like anything.They are conducting many activities in UAE.

Culture

Cherukara village is a predominantly Muslim populated area. Hindus exist in comparatively smaller numbers. So the culture of the locality is based upon Muslim traditions. Duff Muttu, Kolkali and Aravanamuttu are common folk arts of this locality. There are many libraries attached to mosques giving a rich source of Islamic studies. Most of the books are written in Arabi-Malayalam which is a version of the Malayalam language written in Arabic script. People gather in mosques for the evening prayer and continue to sit there after the prayers discussing social and cultural issues. Business and family issues are also sorted out during these evening meetings. The Hindu minority of this area keeps their rich traditions by celebrating various festivals in their temples. Hindu rituals are done here with a regular devotion like other parts of Kerala.[1]

Transportation

Cherukara village connects to other parts of India through Perinthalmanna town. National highway No.66 passes through Tirur and the northern stretch connects to Goa and Mumbai. The southern stretch connects to Cochin and Trivandrum. Highway No.966 goes to Palakkad and Coimbatore. The nearest airport is at Kozhikode. The nearest major railway station is at Tirur.
