Chipping Campden, or for most of its existence simply Campden, is a closed railway station on the Cotswold Line, which served the town of Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire.
The Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway was opened in stages. The section between Evesham and Wolvercot Junction, to the north of Oxford, was opened on 4 June 1853;[1] the station at Campden was opened at the same time, and was originally named Mickleton.[2] It was later renamed Campden,[3] and in February 1952 became Chipping Campden.[4] It closed on 3 January 1966.[5]
Reopening Plans
There are proposals for new stations at Withington and Chipping Campden. A long-standing proposal for a new station at Worcester (Norton) Parkway where the line crosses the Birmingham and Bristol Railway has now substantial funding. It is anticipated that the proposal will go to the Planning stage early 2015. The plans and proposals are now available on Worcestershire County Council website and the public consultation period has begun..[6]
