Orpheus Winds
Orpheus Winds is the faculty woodwind quintet connected with Brigham Young University (BYU).
Members
As of 2011, its members included graduates of prominent conservatories from around North America.
April Clayton holds a D.M.A. from Juilliard School, was formerly Principal Flute with the New York Lyric Orchestra. She is also a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and of Oberlin Conservatory. She currently is a professor of flute at BYU.
Geralyn Giovannetti is a Canadian native and graduate of the University of Western Ontario. She has a D.M.A. from the University of Michigan. She was previously a member of the Canadian ensemble Essex Winds. She is a professor of oboe at BYU and Associate Director for Undergraduate Studies at the BYU School of Music.
Laurence Lowe is the Principal horn of The Orchestra at Temple Square and also a former member of the Utah Symphony.
Jaren Hinckley holds a Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University where he studied with Frank Kowalsky. Hinckley has a Masters degree in clarinet performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and a B.M. from the University of Utah.
Christian Smith is a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan and principal bassoonist with The Orchestra at Temple Square. He was previously on the faculty of Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) where he founded the Ricks College Chamber Winds.
