Christine Kuo (Chinese: 苟芸慧; pinyin: Gōu Yúnhuì; Wade–Giles: Kou1 Yün2-hui4; Jyutping: Gau2 Wan4 Wai6; born 11 July 1983) is a Taiwanese-born Canadian actress based in Hong Kong. She is of mixed Korean, Japanese, Dutch, and Taiwanese aborigine parentage.[1][2] She was the winner of the Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant 2008 and Miss Chinese International Pageant 2009.
Entering the Industry
Christine stated that Leanne Li and Linda Chung were her targets for her success. Her priority is improving her Cantonese.[3] They all come from Canada and are all Christians too.,[4][5] additionally Leanne helped Christine by playing Chinese games with her to improve her Cantonese, Leanne's husband Wong Cho Lam also taught Christine.[6]
Personal
Christine has a completed university-level education and can speak English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. Some of her hobbies or talents are music: playing the piano and the flute; reading; and singing.[7] Her ambition is to be a successful woman. She resided in Toronto, Ontario with her father, mother, younger sister, and younger brother. Her Cantonese is not good due to her only learning it at church, without a professional. She is a Christian and is dating fellow Christian, and godmother's son actor Joey Law who was in Mr. Hong Kong.
Her parents are Taiwanese-born Chinese of Chinese, Korean, Dutch and Japanese descent.[8]
Pageant career
She won the four special awards in Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant 2008 being the Miss Photogenic, Miss Fittest Posture, Miss Popularity and Miss Most Beautiful Hair.[9][10] In January 2009, she represented Toronto to compete in the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2009 as a huge favorite due to her awards and other attributes (she won the most votes) and was compared to beautiful people such as Kelly Lin and Zhang ZiYi,[11] then she quickly was awarded the Miss International Charm Award and later was crowned Miss Chinese International 2009 Champion, crowned by the previous titleholder, Océane Zhu, from Paris, France.[12] Her talent during the pageant was playing the flute and she played slowly due to her being sick during the pageant, therefore her performance was cut for being too long by Eric Tsang.[13]
Christine Kuo (苟芸慧) signed a 6-year contract with TVB and moved from Toronto to Hong Kong to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.[14]
