Colegio Humboldt (Costa Rica)
Colegio Humboldt (German: Humboldt-Schule) is a German international school in Pavas, San José, Costa Rica.[1] It serves levels preschool through Abitur.
It was founded in 1912.[2] Though the school was originally created to serve the children of German nationals and those who apply are given preference, most of the students who attend are "Tico," that is, Costa Rican with no German background. There are also a smattering of students whose parents came from other countries in Europe as well as from the United States and other countries. There is a scholarship program by which a certain number of scholarship students can enter in the 5th grade. Other than that, entrance begins at pre-kinder or kinder level with few exceptions.
The school is trilingual with German and Spanish taught first, and English introduced in Grade 5. By the time the students graduate, they are fluent in all three languages.
Besides being an academically rigorous school which offers the German high school degree to those who want to go after it (others take the Costa Rica exam), Humboldt is known for its profusion of extra-curricular activities (dozens of after-school clubs) and its impressive sports program and facilities that include an Olympic size swimming pool and a full size track and soccer field.
