Derrick Acosta (born September 27, 1985) is an American independent actor, director and comedian living in San Diego, California. He is best known for his work in Mega64, a web based comedy group founded in 2003. The group produces a self-titled series that has had three seasons released on DVD in which Derrick plays various characters including "Horatio" and "Derek".
Background
Acosta grew up in the San Diego, California area. He is from a Puerto Rican-American family. Acosta attended West Hills High School where he joined the school's theater department and met his future co-workers Rocco Botte and Shawn Chatfield. He currently has his own YouTube channel called Goosetofoh where he occasionally posts personal vlogs, skits, and more recently his directed music videos.[1]
Career
On November 5, 2002 Acosta's classmate Rocco Botte wrote down a loose outline for what would become Mega64 during class.[2] He eventually recruited Derrick Acosta and Shawn Chatfield to help create the show in 2003, which was intended to be released on public access television. Eventually, all episodes were released on DVD, published through Awful Video, the publishing arm of Something Awful in 2005. Subsequently seasons 2 and 3 of the show were released on DVD in 2006 and 2010 respectively. In early 2006 short skits from the series were uploaded to YouTube, usually featuring a member of Mega64 portraying a video game character causing chaos in a public setting. Several of these videos have gone on to garner millions of views.
Acosta also owns a multimedia company with partner/friend Dustyn Peterman, a San Diego-based artist, which has directed and produced a number of music videos including Mrs Magicians "There Is No God" and "Dead 80s", as well as Gary Wilson's "I JUST WANT TO HOLD YOU IN MY ARMS".[3]
Most recently, Derrick has featured as an actor in a commercial for JINX (clothing) clothing brand.
