Donald Drew Egbert

Donald Drew Egbert (Norwalk, CT, 1902 - Princeton, NJ, 1973) was an American art historian.

Egbert studied at Princeton University, graduating in 1924, and became a lecturer in architectural history at Bryn Mawr College in 1930. At this time his specialism was medieval art history, although he maintained a strong interest in American architectural history publishing in both areas. Returning to Princeton in 1968 he became Butler Professor of the History of Architecture, retiring in 1970.

A major contribution by Egbert to the history of art was the publication of the large work, Social Radicalism and the Arts, Western Europe: A Cultural History from the French Revolution to 1968 (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1970), which was one of the first published surveys of radical political agendas in the history of western art.
