Douglas M. Leone (born 1957) is an American venture capitalist and a partner at Sequoia Capital. He joined Sequoia in 1988 and has been a Managing Partner since 1996.[2] His focus is on internet, software and communication investments. He has been ranked in the top 10 investors in the United States by Forbes Magazine multiple times.[3] Doug also led Sequoia's international expansion into China and India.[4] Leone, who previously worked for Hewlett-Packard, Prime Computer, and Sun Microsystems, earned a mechanical engineering degree from Cornell University.[5]

Early life

He emigrated from Italy with his family aged 11, and they settled in Mount Vernon, New York.[6]

Doug earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University (1979),[7] an MS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University (1986),[8] and an MS in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management (1988).[9]

Career

Leone joined Sequoia Capital in 1988. Prior to 1988, he worked at Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and Prime Computer in sales and sales management positions.

Leone was responsible for numerous successful investments including ServiceNow, Aruba, Meraki, Rackspace, Netezza, Arbor/Hyperion, RingCentral and MedExpress. He currently sits on the board of PlanGrid, NuBank, Medallia, ZirMed, ActionIQ, Numerify, Birst and Lattice Engines.[10]

Personal life

Leone is married to Patti Leone and the father of four children.
