By-election caused by the death of John Dacey. Seat was won by Dacey's son-in-law Simon Hickey who defeated former MP for Sturt William John Ferguson.[4]

George Anderson was MP for Waterloo, John Dacey for Botany. Dacey had been defeated for Labor pre-selection in Botany but agreed to contest Alexandria at the Labor Party's request.[7]
