Fajar LRT Station (BP10) is an LRT station on the Bukit Panjang LRT Line in Singapore.

History

Before (and during) the erection of Fajar Station, residents of this part of Bukit Panjang were served by a bus service that called on the bus stop just next to the Fajar Station, namely the late TIBS Service 179. This bus brought passengers around Bukit Panjang and towards the Choa Chu Kang MRT/LRT station where they could transfer easily to the train system mentioned.

TIBS Service 179 had been withdrawn on 26 December 1999 as part of BPLRT rationalization. And it was since been by SBS Transit to enhance people to NTU and NIE. Fajar, thus the Bukit Panjang LRT Line, now caters to the residents living in the vicinity of the station and still brings passengers to the Choa Chu Kang MRT/LRT.

Vicinity

Fajar station serves the residents of HDB flats located along the northern part of Bukit Panjang Ring Road. The station is conveniently situated right next to Fajar Shopping Centre, catering to the needs of residents living near-by, be it the market, food, body wellness, etc. It is also a stone's throw away from Chi Hock Keng (Buddhist) Temple.

An open-space court is right next to (and across the main Fajar Road) where one can find residents from all walks of life utilizing the big concrete space for recreational needs and sometimes, the space can be converted to cater for big community events or festival-related entertainment such as small scale concerts, Chinese New Year celebrations, and the like. Currently the court was demolish to build an Automated Parking System.

Etymology

This station is located along Fajar Road. Fajar means "dawn" in Malay.

Station layout

This station was being modified configuration from other 10 stations which the difference was the elevator position which at Platform 2 was at the center of the platform. And it was the one of the few stations on BPLRT will have another gate to exit whole day.
