The Fashion and Textile Museum is a museum based in Bermondsey, London, United Kingdom, dedicated to all aspects of fashion and textile design.[1] Founded in 2003 by the designer Zandra Rhodes, the museum is now operated by Newham College and rather than running a permanent exhibition, offers an ongoing programme of temporary displays.[1][2]
Building
The museum is housed in a converted warehouse which was redesigned by the Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta in collaboration with Rhodes.[3][4] It was Legorreta's first and only building in Europe.[5][6] In addition to the exhibition space, the building contains a textile studio and printing workshop and private residential quarters.[4] The building has become a tourist attraction in its own right due to its outrageous colour scheme of hot pink, burnt orange, yellow, and bright blue.[3][4]
