FreeMove

FreeMove is a mobile telecommunications organisation, designed to help multinational companies reduce the complexity of managing mobile services from one country to another. Formed in 2003, FreeMove brings together Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia and Telia Company. By combining the coverage and capabilities of the member operators, FreeMove enables companies to streamline commercial arrangements and service delivery.

FreeMove members are leaders in the business market in Germany, France, Italy and the Nordics and Baltic region, supporting around 2.5 million corporate mobile connections corresponding to 50% MNC market share (of addressable market) managed within FreeMove’s footprint.^[1]

Partnerships

Bridge Alliance

FreeMove has been co-operating with the Bridge Alliance since 2007.^[2] Bridge covers over 430 million customers across eleven markets,^[3] ensuring that frequent travellers can use a suite of value-added services for roaming amongst member countries.

Cosmote

FreeMove signed a strategic partnership with the Cosmote group in Greece in August 2011.^[1]

MegaFon

FreeMove signed a partnership with leading Russian operator MegaFon in February 2011 to include the Russian market.

With a subscriber base of 57 million, MegaFon is the second largest operator in Russia’s growing telecoms market, both in terms of subscriber numbers and revenue share.^[4]

T-Mobile US

A partnership with T-Mobile US was announced in November 10, 2010.

T-Mobile US, Inc. is the U.S. wireless operation of Deutsche Telekom AG. The company is the fourth-largest wireless carrier in the U.S. market with 33.73 million customers and annual revenues of US$21.35 billion.^[5]

Turkcell

The partnership between FreeMove and Turkcell was announced in October 2010. The company has 34.1 million subscribers in Turkey as of June 30, 2011.^[6]

NOS

NOS Comunicações, S.A., previously known as Optimus, is the biggest communication and entertainment group in Portugal and is part of the FreeMove ecosystem since a long time as Optimus was partly owned by the Orange group. The company totals over 3.3 million customers in Mobile, 1.5 in TV and Phone and nearly 1 million Wireless Internet customers.NOS has a strong market share in 3P, 4P and 5P subscribers, and is leading in terms of revenues. Its presence is growing in both B2C and B2B with a single brand for all services and all segments. NOS features the best mobile network (90% of the population covered with 4G). The company has a proven track record for innovation, with multiple successful product launches and customer awards.

eir

eir is the principal provider of fixed-line and mobile telecommunications services in Ireland with approximately 2 million customers. FreeMove has partnered with eircom in June 2013 to increase its footprint and offer customers greater options when it comes to providing seamless mobile communications in Ireland. The company has the most extensive network in Ireland and provides a comprehensive range of advanced voice, data, broadband and ICT services to the residential, small business, enterprise and public sector markets.

The Group is currently constructing Ireland’s largest fibre broadband network that will reach 1.9 million homes and businesses in the next five years. Launched in May 2013, the network now reaches 1.2 million homes and businesses and is the cornerstone of eir’s €2.5 billion strategic investment programme. eir’s mobile division operates under the Meteor and eirMobile brands. In 2013, the Group was the first operator to launch 4G services in Ireland. It has spent more than €300m on improved 3G mobile services and high-speed 4G mobile broadband for customers.

Products and services promoted by FreeMove include voice and data roaming tariffs, central reporting & ordering in 100+ countries.

Service management offer include a centralised contract plus implementation management, Harmonised Service Performance Indicators, as well as dedicated customer support management for fleet managers.

Timeline

December 2003: FreeMove is formed with four leading European operators. Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia and Telefónica,

January 2006: Telefónica leaves the FreeMove alliance as a condition of the acquisition of O2.

March 2006: TeliaSonera, the leading Nordic and Baltic operator, joins the alliance.

September 2006: Spanish operator Amena, part of the France Télécom group, joins the alliance.

March 2007: FreeMove and Bridge Alliance announce that the two alliances have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to pave the way for establishing an alliance-to-alliance cooperation across their combined global footprint.

October 2010: FreeMove and Turkcell announce their partnership.

November 2010: A key strategic partnership with T-Mobile US is announced to better support multinational corporations operating on both sides of the Atlantic.

February 2011: FreeMove signs a partnership with leading Russian operator MegaFon.

August 2011: FreeMove expands its presence into South East Europe with mobile telecommunications services providers Cosmote (Greece)

September 2013 : Eir, the main Irish operator, joins FreeMove Alliance. ^[7]
