Frog Records is a UK based reissue record label, specializing in re-mastering classic jazz, blues, and jug band music. The company has been owned since 2004 by record producer Paul Swinton and has issued circa 90 CDs (as at 2014) and publishes an (almost) yearly book called the Frog Blues and Jazz Annual.[1]
The Frog CDs include:
- the highly regarded[2]complete recordings of Bessie Smith,
- King Oliver,
- New Orleans Owls,
- Memphis Jug Band,
- Johnny Dodds,
- The Washingtonians (Duke Ellington's earliest recordings),
- Thomas Morris,
- Dixieland Jug Blowers.
The label was formed in 1994 by jazz collector/enthusiast David French (d 2004) and a group of collector friends hunting down original recordings from around the world (mostly the U.S.). Many of the CDs have been remastered by audio engineers led by John R. T. Davies (d 2004), Charlie Crump, and Nick Dellow.
