Hanna Honthy
Hanna Honthy (born Hajnalka Hügel; 21 February 1893, Budapest – 30 December 1978, Budapest), was a Hungarian opera singer and actress.
Career
Hügel was born on 21 February 1893, in Budapest. From age 10, she was a ballet pupil of the Operaház. After finishing the school as a private student, she learned acting as a student of Szidi Rákos between 1914 and 1915, from Ödön Bárdi between 1915 and 1917, and learned singing from renowned tenorist Georg Anthes. After acting in Bratislava, Rijeka, and Szombathely as Hanna Honthy, she returned to Budapest in 1920, where her first success came in Blaha Lujza theatre. She appeared in numerous theatres afterwards, including the Vígszínház, Városi Színház, achieving high fame as a prima donna, supported by her critically acclaimed voice and acting ability. Between the years of 1925 and 1927 and the year 1949, she was a member of the Fővárosi Operettszínház theatre. She also appeared in film.
