Havila Kavo

Havila Kavo is a Papua New Guinean politician who was elected Governor of Gulf Province for the People’s National Congress Party in July 2007. This appointment was rescinded in June 2010, following a vote of no-confidence by the Gulf Provincial Assembly. However, Kavo successfully challenged this decision and was reinstated following a ruling by the Supreme Court in August 2010.[1]

Controversy

In April 2011, Kavo was arrested and charged for the misappropriation of over PGK131,000 in public funds from the Gulf administration between January and February 2010. The payments were authorised by then acting Gulf provincial administrator, Simon Peter who was also arrested for his part in the misappropriation.[2]
