High Island Independent School District
High Island Independent School District is a public school district based in unincorporated Galveston County, Texas, United States.
HIISD serves the communities of Caplen, High Island, and Gilchrist. The school district lost approximately 15% of its students in 2008 due homes and residences destroyed by Hurricane Ike. In the fall of 2009 the district reported an enrollment of 186 students.[1]
Academic achievement
In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.[2]
