Hit Refresh is a South African music television series which features live studio-recorded music performances by various artists.[1] The show is produced by the founder DJ Strat3gy. It is sponsored by the Don't Look Down Agency. Starting in 2008, Hit Refresh has been popular throughout the country, receiving critical acclaim on radio stations.
The program focuses on a fusion of the diverse musical influences in South Africa[2] including house, deep house and electro. The show provides a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists, of various genres.[3]
Its featured artists on each episode are backed by a house band and guest artists.
History
Hit Refresh was created and is founded by DJ Strat3gy's production company Don't Look Down.[4] The first season premiered on 5 June 2008 but in the second season of the show live audiences were excluded and performances were held in a closed studio platform.
Hit Refresh has also been seen as an economic process of transnationalism and as a transnational television production, with its production systems being created and augmented by global flows of artists, technology, distribution and economics. Within this process, economic structures are created, opened and even reoriented; influences are borrowed and music produced.
Digital download
'Hit Refresh mixes are officially avalaible on their YouTube[5] and SoundCloud[6] channels for digital download.
