Hotel TerraVina is a boutique New Forest Hotel near Southampton in Hampshire, established by Gerard Basset and his wife Nina. Gerard co-founded Hotel du Vin with Robin Hutson.[1][2] The hotel has 11 bedrooms, a large restaurant, bar and terrace and a swimming pool.
History
Gérard and Robin Hutson opened their first Hotel du Vin in Winchester in 1994. They opened six hotels in total before selling to MWB Group in October 2004.[3] Gerard and Nina purchased Hotel Terravina, in the New Forest near Southampton, in early 2007.[4] They renovated it using local craftspeople.[1]
Proprietors
Gérard is a wine specialist. He is a Master Sommelier,[5] Master of Wine[6] and holds a Wine MBA.[7] Gérard is a Chevalier Sabrage, an expert in Sabrage, the art of opening a bottle of Champagne using a sabre.
Nina qualified from Westminster Hotel School, and started her career in Paris and then on returning to England, worked at Chewton Glen Hotel where she met Basset. She was an AA Hotel Inspector at the age of 21,[1] and left to help set up the Hotel du Vin in Winchester. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality.
