"Hotter Than Fire" is a song by Swedish singer Eric Saade and American singer Dev. It is the first single from Saade's third album, Saade Vol. 2, and was first released on 2 November 2011 in Sweden. The song reached #5 in Sweden.[3]

Background

"Hotter Than Fire" was written by Eric Saade, and Jason Gill. The song was recorded in 2011.[1]

The collaboration with Dev started after Saade saw the video of her single Bass Down Low. Dev heard an early demo of Hotter Than Fire and said immediately yes after they asked her if she wanted to join the song. About the song and the collaboration with Dev, Saade said: "It's a song that shows quite clearly where I am going. I love electro-pop and I feel like I'm in the middle of the development to begin to find what I want to do. When Dev wanted to sing on the song it became the icing on the cake. Her 'rap song' style was so perfect for the song. She made it sexy."

scandipop.co.uk released a preview of the song on 30 October 2011.

Other versions

Remixes of the song were released on 30 November 2011 in Sweden.[4] The remixes are from Niclas Kings.[5] A remixed version by LMC will be released as a single in the UK in 2012.

Critical reception

In general, "Hotter Than Fire" received positive reviews from critics. scandipop.co.uk wrote about the song: "Well it's bloody fantastic, isn't it?" myfizzypop.blogspot.com wrote that the song "stands out - partly from familiarity at this point and partly because it is one of the most insistent, amazing pop songs of the year. It still sounds great, has a ferocious beat and some tremendous vocals from Eric."[6] popcrush.com wrote that "Saade and Dev bring the Eurodance jams with 'Hotter Than Fire', with Dev taking the song full circle with her smooth, smoky, infectious hook."[7] The website also compared the song to Pitbull's song "Rain Over Me"[8] and David Guetta's songs. The website gave the song 4 out of 5 stars.[9] idolator.com wrote that the song is "a blazing dance-pop jam" and compared it to Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love".[10]

popdust.com compared the song to Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" and wrote that "it seems too labored". The lyrics were also criticised. The website gave the song two of five stars.[11]

In December 2011, myfizzypop.blogspot.com has listed the song on number two of their list Best of 2011.[12]

Music video

The music video premiered on 7 December 2011. It was shot in one take and filmed on 19 November 2011 in Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Dev filmed her part in the United States.[13] In the video, Saade is dancing from room to room in an abandoned house.[14] Dev is featured via video link. The video uses sped-up and slowed-down sections.[15]
