Ian MacGillivray

Ian MacGillivray MD FRCOG FRCP is a Scottish doctor who is a former professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Aberdeen and former president of the International Society for Twin Studies.

Education

He was educated at the Leven Academy, Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire.[1] He attended the University of Glasgow and graduated with a medical degree in 1944.[1] He became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1949, with his fellowship awarded in 1959.[1] He also gained a MD in 1953.[1]

Career

In November 1960, he was appointed to newly created Chair of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St Mary's Hospital Medical School.[1] He was Regis Chair of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Aberdeen from 1965 to 1984.[2] He was president of the International Society for Twin Studies from 1980–1983.[2]

Awards and honours

The MacGillivray Academic Centre, based within the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital opened on 16 November 1999.[3]
