Ingram Tom Moore High School (commonly Tom Moore High School, ITM, ITMHS or simply Ingram) is a small public high school in Ingram, Texas, USA serving grades 9-12. It is the only high school in the Ingram Independent School District, and is attended by students from west Kerr County. Built in 1976, ITMHS opened in 1980 as the first school in west Kerr County and was named at the request of Tom Moore, who donated the land it rests on today.

As of the 2015 school year, the school has an enrollment of 451 students and 39.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 11.3:1. This number of students places Ingram in the 3A class when competing in UIL, Ingram has been classified as a 3A school for the 2014 school year, and those following. The mascot is the Warrior and the colors are red, black, and white.

History

A photo of Ingram's first and main building.
The school's main entrance to the original building, with the letters ITM clearly visible.

Although the main building (including the office and 16 classrooms) was constructed in 1976, it wasn't until 1980 that the first classes were held. When the school opened, the following words were etched in the foyer: "Ingram Moore High School [sic], established 1980, A student centered school in a student centered community where the standard of quality education will not be compromised." The school was named in honor of Tom Moore after the large land grant he provided.[2]

Currently, the town of Ingram is growing more quickly than ITMHS can afford to keep up with. Even though new buildings are constantly being constructed, the low funding (mainly due to the low median household income of Ingram[3]) prevents enough classrooms from being built. To fill this void, many portable classrooms have been added to the campus, additions which have garnered criticism from various sources.[4]

Academics and curriculum

Tom Moore operates from 7:50 a.m. to 3:43 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Tom Moore runs an 8 period day. Under the leadership of Principal Justin Crittenden the whole concept of the way Tom Moore operates has been totally revamped starting in 2014. Under the leadership of Principal Crittenden Tom Moore HS has seen major improvements and advancements.

The school is notable for offering a large number of AP classes for its size, with courses in English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Government, Macroconomics, U. S. History, Calculus AB, Physics B, Environmental Science, Biology, and Chemistry. Ingram Tom Moore High School has also opted to join the "Ignite" Rocketry Program with a class in Aerospace Engineering.[5]

Lack of funding resulted in the addition of portable classrooms.

For a school of its size, Ingram's campus is sprawling. The land is shared with Ingram Middle School, but the majority is used for high school activities.

Extracurricular activities

Athletics

The Warriors are not known for having major success in the "big man" sports such as football. Since 1980 the Warriors have won one state championship in the major sports, that coming in basketball in 1990. In the mid-2000s the basketball team had nice success, going to the state quarterfinal in 2004 and in 2005. Football has only gone to the playoffs five times, the last being in 2000. Sports not requiring size advantages have had good success, with the tennis team winning the district championship 14 of the last 17 years, and won each year between 1991-2003. Cross country also has success with many state runners and medalists, and a girls championship in 1997.

The boys basketball team won state in 2A in 1990, and the girls cross country team won state in 3A in 1997 . Volleyball made it to the 2006 playoffs in the first time in 15 years. Boys Basketball made it to playoffs 6 times in a row.

When Ingram Tom Moore first opened up in 1980, they had the worst season of football losing every game. By 1985 they went all the way to the Regional State Playoffs against Randolph Air Force base and lost by one touchdown. the schools all time rushing record was set on September 17, 2007.

Under the leadership of Christopher Moralez the Tom Moore HS tennis teams have had amazing success. TM tennis have had multiple state championships & state champions. Warrior baseball has recently added coach Steve Rippee to the growing program, he is a veteran baseball coach with hundreds of wins. The community is very excited about his record and look forward to seeing the continued success at Tom Moore HS.

Agricultural Science Department

Ingram Tom Moore High School is well-known for its ag department and FFA. The various teams that compete for the Ingram FFA have placed well in all levels of competition. Contrary to popular belief, the FFA teams do not compete only against other 3-A teams; they compete against teams from schools of all sizes. The most recent results include the Ag Sales team placing 3rd at the Texas State CDE's in 2009. That same year, the Wildlife team placed 1st out of 50 teams at state. Two of these team members also placed 1st individually out of over 100 contestants. In the fall of 2010, the FFA Ag Issues team and the Jr. Creed Speaker (Rebekah Talarico) each placed 4th at the state LDE competition out of 20 qualifying teams. These are only the most recent results and do not do justice to express how well the Ingram FFA stands.
