HIstory
During the Portuguese rule up to 1975, statistics were done by the Provincial Statistics Service (Repartição Provincial de Estatística). When Cape Verde became independence, the Serviço Nacional de Estatística (SNE, Portuguese for the National Statistics Service) was established and was done by the Ministry of Economics. Its first president was Edgard Chrysostome Pinto. In 1986, the SNE had its own authority.
On December 23, 1996, the SNE became the Istituto Nacional de Estatística (INE) under the direction of Francisco Fernandes Tavares.
Since 1996, under law, several sections are done by the delegates called the Órgãos Delegados do INE. It is the statistical department of other ministries and government agencies in Cape Verde.
