Island Records Australia was launched in 2007 by Universal Music Australia. Island Records Australia is a Universal Music Australia label headed by Michael Taylor.
Island Records Australia is home to established artists Boy & Bear, Havana Brown, Hilltop Hoods (via Golden Era Records), Clare Bowditch, Gin Wigmore, Marvin Priest, and emerging artists Andy Bull and Jinja Safari.
In 2009 Island Records Australia had the highest selling domestic artist release in Australia for the year with the Hilltop Hoods (via Golden Era),[1] nearing 2x platinum and the highest selling domestic artist release in New Zealand for the year with Gin Wigmore, nearing 4x platinum.
The original Island Records, founded in 1962 by Chris Blackwell, has developed its premier reputation through the global popularity of such artists as U2, Bob Marley, Cat Stevens, Roxy Music, Bad Company, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, P.J. Harvey, Pulp and more recently, The Killers and Amy Winehouse.

Island Records Australia hosts the annual Bali songwriting Invitational, a 10-day songwriting camp in Bali for artists, songwriters and producers. The camp is also sponsored by Bill Silve Entertainment, Universal Music Publishing Group Australia, Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA),[5] and supported by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) and Swara Padi Recording Studio & Villas.
