Jack Walker is an English professional rugby union player. He currently plays at hooker for Bath Rugby. Prior to joining Bath Walker played for Yorkshire Carnegie, he was the youngest forward to play for and, the youngest player to captain the club. Walker has played for the England age groups and was part of the teams which won the 2014 and 2016 Junior World Championships, Walker has captained the U20 side since 2016.
Early life
Walker was born in Steeton, West Yorkshire, his father played both Rugby Union and Rugby League.[4] Walker attended Prince Henry's Grammar School,[5] he started playing at North Ribblesdale.[6] Walker started playing at Fly-half before being moved to the forwards.[6] Walker was awarded the Jaguar Academy of Sport rising star in 2012.[7]
Club Rugby
Walker signed for Yorkshire Carnegie in 2013. He made made his debut in October 2013 coming off the bench in a match against Bristol at the age of 17 years and 160 days becoming the youngest forward to appear for Carnegie.[7] Walker became the youngest captain of Carnegie in 2015 at the age of 18 years, 256 days.[8]
In May 2016 it was announced that Walker had signed with Aviva Premiership side Bath for the 2016/17 season.[9]
International Rugby
Walker has played for the England age groups U16-U20. He was a member of the team that won the Junior World Championship title in 2014 playing in all matches. Walker went on to start all the matches for the England U20 side in the 2015 Six Nations and the subsequent 2015 Junior World Championship.[4]
Walker was made captain of the U20 side for the 2016 six nations[10] and continued to captain the side in the 2016 Junior World Championships until the semi-final stage when he was ruled out with concussion,[11] England won the final of the competiton and Walker lifted the trophy alongside Harry Mallinder who had captained in his absence.[4]
