James W. Keyes is the former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Blockbuster Inc.[1] and the former President and CEO of 7-Eleven.

Education

Keyes graduated from the College of the Holy Cross. He also obtained an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1980.

Career

Keyes served as the President and CEO of 7-Eleven from 2000 until 2005, retiring upon its sale to Seven & I Holdings Co.. Before that, he also served as CFO and COO of the company during his 21 years at the company.[2]

Keyes was appointed as Chairman and CEO of Blockbuster in 2007.[3] Despite some obvious signs, he was slow to incorporate some initiatives, such as online rentals or kiosks, in lieu of attempting to maintain the in-store business. As such, he was the last CEO and chairman of Blockbuster, Inc., despite the early thoughts, that he was the man to turn it around.[4] In 2011, Blockbuster was sold to Dish Network and Keyes was replaced by Michael Kelly, a Dish executive, under the new title of President for Blockbuster.
