Jeremy Rashaad Lane (born July 14, 1990) is an American football cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played collegiate football at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft, 172nd overall by the Seahawks, and became a member of the Legion Of Boom. With the Seahawks, he was part of the winning team for Super Bowl XLVIII.
Professional career
On April 28, 2012 Lane was drafted in the NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks with the 172nd pick overall in the sixth round. On May 7, 2012, he agreed to contract terms.[1] During the 2013 NFL season, Lane won his first Super Bowl ring as a member of the Seahawks.
Lane suffered a groin injury in week 1 of the 2014-2015 season against the Green Bay Packers.[2]
Lane recorded his first career interception in Super Bowl XLIX, picking off a pass at the goal-line in the first quarter. It proved costly as on the interception return Lane would suffer a severe arm injury and a torn ACL after being tackled by Julian Edelman during the return of the interception; he did not return to the game that they lost.
After missing the first 11 weeks of the 2015 season, Lane returned to the Seahawks in their Week 12 matchup against the Steelers. Lane recorded an interception in his first quarter back, picking off backup quarterback Landry Jones on a fake field goal attempt.
On March 9, 2016, Lane re-signed with the Seahawks on a four-year contract.[3]
Lane has since been in the news for siding with Colin Kaepernick on not standing for the national anthem at preseason games. Lane’s decision came less than a week after Kaepernick first sat in protest of "American racial injustice and minority oppression." Kaepernick also reached out to Lane. “(Kaepernick) reached out to me and just told me thank you, standing behind me,” Lane said.[4]
