John William Paterson (born 14 December 1896) was a Scottish footballer who played as a forward.
Career
Born in Dundee, Paterson played club football for Dundee, Leicester City, Sunderland, Preston North End, Mid Rhondda and Mansfield Town, and made one appearance for Scotland in 1920.[1] For Sunderland he scored 40 goals in 77 appearances in all competitions.[2] Prior to his football career Paterson had been injured while serving with the Black Watch in World War I.[1]
