Joseph Okumu[1][2] Joseph “Crouch” Okumu is a Kenyan defender who plays for the Kenyan national team and KPL side Chemelil[3] Fc. He was nicknamed crouch due to his similarity in physique with English player Peter Crouch. He is known for his good passing ability, speed on the ball, ability to read the game, ability to use both feet and aerial defense capability
Club career
Kakamega High school
Okumu played for the Kakamega High school football team until his graduation from high school at the end of 2015. It was at Kakamega high school while he was still in form one that he was discovered during a friendly between Western Stima and Kakamega High School by the then Western Stima coach Francis Baraza who tried to sign him immediately but was advised to wait Until Joseph was through with high school.[4]
Senior career
Chemelil sugar Fc
Okumu was signed by Chemelil Sugar Fc on a two-year deal on 31 December 2015,[5] he established himself as a first team favorite with his defensive showings earning him a call up to the national team
Free State Stars
On 10 August 2016, Okumu was reported to be at South Africa PSL side Free State Stars on a weeklong trial.[6] On 17 August 2016, Okumu was Signed by Free State Stars after impressing on his his trials[7]
International career
Okumu received his first call up for the national team on 16 March 2016 ahead of a match against Guinea Bissau;[8][9] his first cap was against Sudan on 31 May 2016 at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in a friendly that ended in a 1-1 stalemate.[10][11] Okumu has 2 caps for the Kenyan national team at all levels.
