Kamala is a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in 2003 in Campinas, São Paulo. The band comprises at this time Raphael Olmos on vocals and guitar, Adriano Martins on bass, Ludwig Van Beethoven da Silva on guitar and Adalberto Nunes on drums. Since its formation, Kamala has had four changes in lineup, first in 2004 when the drummer Rodrigo Pines left the band and Adalberto Nunes, vocalist at that time took the sticks forming a trio with Raphael and Adriano, second in 2006 when Adalberto left the band and Fabio Braga took the drums, in 2007 when Ralph Migotto enter the band for the second guitar and at end of this same year Adalberto come back after problems with Fabio, finally in 2009 when Ralph left the band and the German Ludwig Van Beethoven da Silva was called to replace him. The name Kamala refers to Hindu goddess of the same name that represents the strength and wisdom.
History
Kamala was formed in 2003 in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, by Raphael Olmos. The purpose of the band was doing a heavy sound with strong lyrics and no concerns about styles. The first line up was Raphael Olmos (guitar), Rodrigo Pines (drum), Adalberto Nunes (vocal) and Adriano Martins (bass guitar). In mid-2004 Rodrigo the drummer leaves the band for reasons of incompatibility of ideas and then Adalberto took his place leaving vacant the position of the vocal. Raphael resolves assume the post and as a trio the band recorded their first demo in 2005 called Corrosive. The doors started to open after the first record and the band played with great names of national metal like Claustrofobia and Torture Squad. In 2007 with the entry of Ralph Migotto they finalize their debut Kamala released by Overload Records at the end of that year. In 2008 the band playing alongside bands such as Rockefellas, the former lead singer of Iron Maiden, Paul Di'anno, Almah, the lead singer of Angra, Edu Falaschi. At the end of that year Ralph leaves the band and German Ludwig Van Beethoven da Silva took the second guitar. In 2009 the band played with the Dutch band Reason to Kill, Torture Squad and the great name of the metal world Sepultura. And is preparing his second CD which called Fractal, making an analogy to evolution of geometric shapes.
Musical style and lyrical themes
Kamala's sound is not easily classifiable as they blend several styles. Genres that have been associated with Kamala are thrash metal, progressive metal, groove metal and metalcore. They are often compared to bands like Machine Head, Sepultura and Megadeth. Kamala have been influenced by heavy metal artists such as Sepultura, Metallica, Meshuggah, Gojira, Megadeth, Machine Head and In Flames.
